Pinan Shodan

Description

Pinan Shodan, the 3rd kata. Anko Itosu is the creator of this kata. The name Pinan translates to "peaceful and safe." Shodan can be interpreted as "first" or "beginning" making this the first kata of the Pinan series (1/5). The Pinan katas were adapted from older katas and made more suitable to teach younger students. This kata introduces the moves Shuto Uke(open-hand block) and Shuto Uchi(knife-hand strike). This kata introduces Neko Ashi Dachi(cat stance).
