Description
Naihanchi Sandan, the 10th kata. Anko Itosu is the creator of this kata. The name Naihanchi translates to "sideways fighting." The name reflects how the kata's footwork only moves sideways. Sandan means "third" making this the third kata of the Naihanchi series (3/3). The Naihanchi katas were designed for attacks coming from the defender's side. This kata introduces a combination of double blocks, sideways grabbing, and a combination of a punch and a middle block on the same move. The Naihanchi stance is important to remember in this kata.
