Naihanchi Nidan

Description

Naihanchi Nidan, the 9th kata. Anko Itosu is the creator of this kata. The name Naihanchi translates to "sideways fighting." The name reflects how the kata's footwork only moves sideways. Nidan means "second" making this the second kata of the Naihanchi series (2/3). The Naihanchi katas were designed for attacks coming from the defender's side. This kata introduces a double upward forearm block, sideways open middle block, and a differnt sideways elbow strike than Naihanchi Shodan. The Naihanchi stance is also important to remember in this kata.
