Naihanchi Shodan

Description

Naihanchi Shodan, the 8th kata. Anko Itosu is the creator of this kata. The name Naihanchi translates to "sideways fighting." The name reflects how the kata's footwork only moves sideways. Shodan means "first" making this the first kata of the Naihanchi series (1/3). The Naihanchi katas were designed for attacks coming from the defender's side. This kata introduces side blocks, inner blocks, side punches, side elbow strikes, and side fist strikes. Most importantly, the Naihanchi stance is introduced. The feet should be paralled with each other facing forward.
